Cavacas das Caldas have been produced for many years and are part of the typical gastronomy of the region and, since ancient times, have been a strong attraction for some of the city’s pastry shops. At fairs and pilgrimages in the region it was common to find “Cavaqueiras”, a name that was attributed to the ladies who marketed cavacas in large wicker baskets, as has been written in the history of these regional sweets. Nowadays you can meet these ladies daily in the famous Fruit Square of Caldas da Rainha, a daily market that takes place every morning.
